How Can You Guide Your Child Not to Give Up?

Like any parent, you want to protect your children from experiencing defeat and disappointment, but this is not always possible. You can shield your kids from difficulties, but they are still bound to experience these things as they grow. You can only raise them to be resilient. Here are three ways to help you guide your child not to give up:

  1. Be a role model.

Your child emulates what you do around them, so you should be extra careful and aware of your actions when they are present. Be calm and consistent at viewing things positively. You should also admit to your mistakes, teach your child not to agonise excessively, and show how you do better next time. When you do this, your child will do the same and will be inclined to focus on the positive outcomes when they experience a problem.

Great schools in Coimbatore are your best option when finding a place where your child can have the best role models. In an internationally recognised and awarded school, your child can interact with successful people who can show them what’s in store for those who do not give up.

  1. Appreciate your child’s effort.

Of course, parents love to praise their kids. But how you praise your child affects their mindset. If you appreciate how your child processes and exerts an effort in a situation, they develop a growth mindset. For example, verbally praising them about their continued progress on a project helps them believe that they can actually finish the project one step at a time. As much as possible, give your child rewards not based on the outcome but based on what they do to arrive at that outcome.

  1. Allow your child to solve problems.

When your child encounters a difficult situation, do not immediately tell them what to do. Instead, help them brainstorm and make a list of ways to address their problem. You should also help them think of the possible results for each of the solutions they mention. Practising this will help your child learn that there are things that work and don’t. It is a good exercise for tackling challenges as it trains them not to stop when one solution doesn’t work but to continue until the problem is solved.

The best school in Coimbatore’s Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) has a curriculum that provides holistic development. They offer your child opportunities to sharpen their intellectual and physical skills while instilling virtues that will help them become the best they can be.
