Valour and Virtue: A Tribute to a Visionary Veteran | SSVM

SSVM, Mettupalayam, was honoured to host Colonel Saumitra Ray, Shaurya Chakra, as Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker for a commemorative online event under the Government of India’s Veer Gatha Initiative on 16th October 2025.

In an inspiring session celebrating courage and conviction, Colonel Ray fondly recalled his journey, from being the Best NCC Cadet and meeting Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, to the moment when being “at the right time, in the right place, under the right person” earned him the Shaurya Chakra.

With great humility, he reminded students that “soldiers don’t fight for medals, but for the honour of the nation.” The engaging Q&A session saw brilliant questions from our learners, met with equal brilliance, wit, and warmth from the Colonel.

Thanks to our Visionary Management, it became a day of pride, purpose, and patriotism forever etched in the heart of SSVM.
